Art Grades 2015-2016
We are using a more descriptive grading scale in an effort to help parents and guardians understand how their student is performing in class. Each project will be evaluated in 4 categories:
Participation, Understanding and demonstration of the concepts taught, Meeting of the requirements given and Use of tools. Students can get up to 4 points for each category. The following breaks down how those points are earned.
Participation-
4- Student exceeds expectations of staying on task, participating in class discussions, listening attentively during lessons and is always engaged when in the art room.
3- Student meets expectations of staying on task, participating during class discussions, listening attentively during lessons and is mostly engaged when in the art room.
2- Student is emerging or working on getting better at staying on task, participating during class discussions, listening attentively during lessons and is sometimes engaged when in the art room.
1-The teacher is concerned that the student is not staying on task, participating during class discussions, listening attentively during lessons and is not engaged when in the art room.
Demonstration and Understanding of the Concepts Taught-
4-Student exceeds expectations demonstrating and understanding the concepts that were taught.
3-Student meets expectations demonstrating and understanding the concepts that were taught.
2-Student is emerging in their demonstration and understanding of the concepts that were taught.
1-The teacher is concerned that the student did not demonstrate or understand the concepts that were taught.
Meets the Requirements of the Assignments-
4-Student Exceeded and did more than what was required for the assignment.
3-Student met all of the requirements of the assignment.
2-Student is emerging and has met most, but not all, of the requirements of the assignment.
1-The teacher is concerned because the student failed to meet any of the requirements of the assignment.
Use of Tools- (Crayons, markers, paint etc)
4-Student exceeds expectations using art tools appropriately and effectively.
3-Student meets expectations using art tools appropriately and effectively.
2-Student is emerging or still has some improvement to be made in their appropriate and effective use of tools
1-Teacher is concerned about the effective and appropriate use of tools by the student.
Progress reports will give you an average of your student’s grades. The average will be a 4, 3, 2 or 1.

In addition to project grades, students will earn a weekly participation grade. It is also based on the 4 point scale.
